4 ways to find your true calling

In current times, individuals are often presented with the paradox of choice. That’s right! Most of us are spoilt for choices. We make the same mistake of choosing the most trodden path. We think that if everyone is doing it, it must be right. On the flip side, some of us might want to diverge. Later on, we discover that perhaps we are not best suited for it, or our interest lies in a different domain.

One would mostly associate this challenge with the younger generation. When they graduate from college, they need to decide their line of work. However, one would be surprised to find that people even in their thirties might experience this situation. Now, most of them just stick with their current profession in order to make ends meet.

In this article, we will decipher how to find your true calling!

How to find your true calling?

Finding one’s line of interest might seem like an arduous task, but it is the most worthwhile endeavour. So, here are a few positive steps to determine your true calling –

1) Explore

Now, this perhaps is the hardest and most gut-wrenching step. It is this step that causes the most amount of fear in individuals. Most individuals are scared to break away from their comfort zones. They remain homeostatic and try to settle for things that make them comfortable.

But the key here is to step outside and find out an individual’s true interests. Now, this might be hard for those trying to hide behind excuses and alibis. An individual needs to make time to explore things because there are plenty of options to choose from. At the end of the day, an individual may still decide to get a job. Now, this is fine as long as they are satisfied with their search.

Most often, individuals are given a catalogue of trodden paths when they graduate, and they end up making a choice without understanding all the available options. Direct selling is a career path that is lesser known, and one may only find out about it much later in life. Exploring allows individuals to discover and pursue such opportunities on their own accord.

2) Take a test

Now, this might not seem like the most suitable option. In fact, it may even make a few individuals – frown upon this suggestion. But taking a test after choosing a career line is a great way to determine if one is actually good at it.

Aptitude tests are conducted to determine an individual’s capabilities. They indicate the areas an individual is good at. By taking a test, the individual proves his/her competence in a particular field. When most start, there isn’t much pressure to perform. Individuals may even take things lightly. In a test, individuals are put in a competitive set-up where they might not just have to prove to themselves but also prove to their doubters that they are capable.

Now, this task might seem daunting. Most individuals tend to quit or look for excuses. However, those who take the test are truly able to determine their capabilities and if they can excel in the domain. So, individuals must consider putting themselves in a position to test their skills. Moreover, it will also provide them with feedback on their current level and what they need to work on to improve.

3) Perform a gig

Another great idea for individuals is to perform for an audience or cater to a client. The gig economy is often misinterpreted. People assume that it is a frivolous activity. However, times have changed, and people make a living out of gigs. Individuals also need to understand that they are not required to perform on stage or busk on the street. Nowadays, a simple project or a consignment also can be seen as a gig.

Now, when an individual takes a gig, this adds to their experience and gives the individual confidence to continue doing it. Perhaps even earn themselves monetary compensations. In addition, an individual can also add their experience to their portfolio, which would again boost their overall credentials.

Performing a gig can truly help the individual understand if he/she can continue doing it professionally. If it inspires the individual, then he/she might have just found their true calling!

4) Stick or twist

Often individuals become too rigid when they pursue a particular path. This means that when things are not working out for them, they tend to continue on the same path of making the same mistakes. When things do not yield the desired results, it is an indication to change the path or make tweaks.

Sometimes, it is a sign that the individual must stop chasing that mirage of a path and perhaps pursue a different field. This is often an extremely difficult task for Individuals, and they might not want to accept that a particular field is not ideal for them. Now, there is no harm for an individual to continue with the same path. However, there needs to be an understanding that they might need to invest additional time. The results they seek might take time.

Conclusion

Now, after the individual has spent a considerable amount of time, a healthy habit is to understand if they would like to stick or twist with a given domain.

Overall, finding one’s true calling is one of the most worthwhile endeavours. It saves them time which they might spend on activities they aren’t interested in. Moreover, it gives them a chance to pursue their interests, and they are more likely to perform better in their choice of profession.

In our country, individuals are often thrust with these choices. They are simply expected to perform well without much consideration for what they really want to pursue. I hope you can break your shackles and pursue the domain of your choice. Just like I did with direct selling.
